About the project

The Directors of New Home Star meet every 90 days in a specially chosen location for a three-day experience. This event includes training sessions led by the senior leadership team, activities fostering team cohesion, and opportunities for networking. Each quarterly director training session adopts a unique theme that serves as the focal point for the quarter. For this gathering in Tampa, Florida, the theme "This Is Us" directed attention towards a deeper exploration of the organization's vision, mission, culture, and roadmap for the future.

With the theme in mind, I came up with three design concepts. The first focused more on a visual representation of the pillars of the QDT event. For the second concept, I knew that the event might take place at a beach resort in Tampa, so I played up the tropical and nautical elements. And, finally, for the third concept I stuck close to the New Home Star brand for the imagery.

Results

The selected concept for the This Is Us event featured nautical-flag-inspired patterns, beach imagery that reflected the venue (TradeWinds Island Grand Resort), and a playful color scheme. I created two logo variations, which would be used across the event collateral, including signage, email designs, print materials, and presentations. The brand icons and wordmarks were used to create patterns in addition to the repeating nautical block patterns. Ultimately, this brand design successfully reflected the destination and embodied New Home Star's vision for this QDT event.
